About this Course

Unlock the power to transform how your learners experience Mathematics!

This 5-day, face-to-face course at the CTLI is an engaging and practical learning experience designed specifically for Grade 3 and 4 teachers. Bridging Math Barriers equips you with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to help learners build strong mathematical foundations—and overcome the challenges that often hold them back.

At the heart of this course is a powerful focus on the role of perceptual skills in mathematical development. You’ll gain valuable insight into how delays in these skills can impact learning, and more importantly, how to effectively support learners in mastering the five core mathematical competencies:

  • Number Sense – Building deep understanding of numbers, their relationships, and operations
  • Operational Fluency – Strengthening confidence and accuracy in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Spatial Awareness – Developing the ability to recognise, interpret, and work with shapes and patterns
  • Measurement Concepts – Exploring key ideas such as length, weight, time, and volume
  • Problem-Solving Abilities – Empowering learners to apply mathematical thinking in meaningful, real-life contexts

Through interactive sessions, hands-on activities, and practical classroom strategies, you’ll learn how to identify perceptual barriers early and respond with targeted, effective support. This course offers a clear, structured approach to scaffolding learning, ensuring that every learner—including those experiencing barriers—can grow in confidence, competence, and success in mathematics.

What makes this course truly valuable?
You won’t just learn the theory—you’ll walk away with practical, ready-to-use strategies that can immediately make a difference in your classroom.

Important to note:
As this is a 5-day face-to-face course, you will need to arrange a substitute teacher for your class. The CTLI will cover the cost of the substitute. Should you experience any difficulty sourcing one, please don’t hesitate to reach out for support. Kindly ensure that the substitute holds a teaching qualification and is under the age of 65.

Take this opportunity to invest in your teaching, strengthen your impact, and change the way your learners engage with mathematics.
