Course Overview:

Step into the world of literary exploration with Beyond the Literature Text – Grade 10, a fully online professional development course designed for FET Language teachers. This course goes beyond content coverage to focus on the pedagogy and practice of teaching Literature effectively in the Grade 10 classroom.

Over three interactive online sessions and guided self-paced activities, participants will:

  • Deepen their understanding of the Literature component in the CAPS curriculum
  • Explore practical strategies for teaching prose, poetry, and drama
  • Strengthen learners’ critical and analytical skills through close reading and discussion
  • Learn to integrate language skills into Literature lessons
  • Develop effective and engaging assessment approaches

Course requirements

  1. The course is aimed at Grade 10 Language teachers (Home and FAL).
  2. You are a teacher teaching Grade 10 Language in 2026.
  3. Completion of course assessments and
  4. Attendance of all three online sessions is compulsory to qualify for a CTLI Certificate.
