Course content will be presented in the three official languages of the Western Cape. It is recommended that you attend the sessions that is in the LoLT of the classroom.
This comprehensive problem-solving course is designed for Foundation Phase educators, focusing on mathematical groundwork, problem-solving strategies, and mathematical language development. Through targeted lessons, educators will learn effective methods for teaching core mathematical concepts, emphasising critical thinking skills and real-world applications
Learning Objectives:
- Apply effective instructional strategies: Teach mathematical problem-solving to Foundation Phase learners using structured approaches.
- Develop mathematical vocabulary: Build essential vocabulary that enhances learners' comprehension and communication abilities.
- Implement structured problem-solving approaches: Teach addition and subtraction using join, separate, part-part-whole, and comparison problem frameworks.
- Introduce multiplication and division concepts: Use equal group problems and multiplicative comparison structures to introduce multiplication and division.
- Design engaging lessons: Connect mathematical concepts to real-world applications involving measurement.
- Foster critical thinking and problem-solving: Create classroom activities that promote critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and systematic problem-solving approaches.
- Assess and evaluate learners' understanding: Use appropriate Foundation Phase assessment techniques to evaluate learners' mathematical understanding.
