Foundation Phase (Grades 1-3)
General Requirements:
This online, self-paced course is designed for Foundation Phase teachers (Grades 1-3) employed by the Western Cape Education Department. To participate, please ensure you: - Download the MS Teams application - Use a personal Gmail account - Have stable internet connectivity

Language:
Course content will be presented in the three official languages of the Western Cape. It is recommended that you attend the sessions that is in the LoLT of the classroom.

About this Course

This course introduces fundamental concepts of space, shape, and measurement, including:

- 2D shapes and 3D objects
- Spatial awareness
- Symmetry
- Measurement

Through interactive sessions, engaging activities, and real-world examples, participants will:

- Develop a deeper understanding of space, shape, and measurement
- Build confidence and proficiency in mathematical abilities
- Gain practical knowledge to support learners' math development

Expert trainers will guide participants through interactive sessions and a supportive learning environment.

 

Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Demonstrate understanding of grade-specific knowledge and skills: Recognize how knowledge and skills build upon each other from grade to grade.
2. Apply methodologies for teaching space, shape, and measurement: Develop effective teaching strategies for these mathematical concepts.
3. Translate knowledge into practice: Use effective teaching strategies to enhance learners' understanding of space, shape, and measurement.
